Featured Photographer - Kacey Baxter

This week we feature Portland Oregon Photographer Kacey Baxter of Acorn Studios.

Kacey’s love and appreciation of photography started at a very young age—seven to be exact. Through a school camera club, she began to experiment with photography using a homemade pin-hole camera and a Kodak Ektralite 500.

While the photography seed was planted early in life, Kacey didn’t really cultivate her interest until her teen years. Thanks to the encouragement and support of a mentor named Sweet Ol’ Bill, Kacey was able to begin honing her skills and finding her style.

Kacey’s entrance into the world of wedding photography happened quite unexpectedly. Still in high school, an emergency led Kacey to cover one of her mentor’s booked weddings. The experience proved very rewarding as she gained exposure a new style of photography. Shortly after, Kacey’s mother began a photography business and throughout college Kacey assisted on weddings and portrait shoots.

A bit older, and a lot more experienced, Kacey is always striving to perfect her craft. Through years of experimentation and learning from others, she has discovered that her style is natural and unscripted. She recognizes that each shoot is as unique as her clients and that the best photos often come out of unplanned moments. Whether it’s a portrait session or a wedding, her goal always is to find the story and capture it as it unfolds.

Kacey uses a wide variety of cameras. A large number of the photos on her web site were taken with a Canon 40D, however she has been known to shoot with everything from her old Cannon AE-1 to her iPhone. Her "go to" lens is the Cannon 28-135mm because as it fits most of her needs while traveling, but also loves her Cannon 50mm f1.4 for its artistic freedom, especially in portraits.
